I really couldn't decide where to put this, so as always feel free to move it.
Monte Cristo, the company who made City Life, is making a new simulator game that is going to reach out to the SimCity community more than City Life did and possibly become a competitor to SimCity Societies As you can see from the picture below, the graphics are pretty good in terms of the buildings. The people aren't the greatest but I could deal with that. I am actually more impressed with these graphics and what this may have to offer than what SCS does. This guy seems to know not to make the same mistake EA has made, and maybe he'll be looking at SimCity 5 comments for more ideas. I'm not sure what one I will end up buying, but I'm going to take both into consideration (maybe buying both). ![]() http://www.will2real.com/?author=1 QUOTE Based on these contributions, I must say I’m not that surprised with the Simcity 4 community reaction to the announcement of Simcity Societies. As I do, city builder fans place simulation depth and realistic environments as key for their enjoyment… as well as content (buildings, landmarks, etc…). When I was a City builder player only I was, like other city builder fans, hungry to see a challenger to Simcity coming with new great features and especially moving the right way to 3D. Now that I’m in a studio working closely with the development team, I must admit that it can be difficult to balance answering players expectations with the goal of widening the audience that pays the bill. As I stated previously, I am working on a really ambitious City Builder project here at Monte Cristo (big $$$ being spent) with tons of new features coming from the initial community feedback on City Life. I’m currently working on a website to be officially delivered by October to get a closer relationship with City Builders’ communities and introduce the Web 2.0 spirit to the genre in order to establish a direct communication with the community. ----- So, what do you think looks more promising? Wow, this actually looks really good! This time around, it seems like Monte Cristo has more experience than the developers of the next SimCity. By the comments of that Will guy, who seems to know what he's talking about, they're actually trying to gain ground where SCS has lost it.
My prediction? This will be much more successful than SCS. -------------------- "sometimes I wonder what elephant won't eat Phd's, whether university matter" - my fridge magnets

I only have one thing to say: This may just put Tilted Mill out of buisness.
Okay, I lied. I have more to say. Here are all the things I see that are better then SCS: 1) Beautiful detail. Sure, it's 50/50 as is, but zoom out to the depth used for SC4, and this level of detail becomes amazing. It's a lot better then SCS. 2) See that train in the BG? 3) The cars have variety. It's hard to tell much else from this one screen. But from what I'm seeing, this game should be SC5. I hope they are able to return to the heart of the game. The timing on this is very coincidental. Perhaps ... perhaps the two development teams should just merge? xD -------------------- ![]() |

Monte Cristo working on City Life Two ![]() I can't seem to find anything more for the game, as it's still in production, anyone sense abit of irony here? Watch someone build in the Building Customisation Editor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EnTOU2CQbY
Now, that's the type of screenshot I was expecting for SC5/SC: S -------------------- This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. This valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.

Oops, Ididn't see this thread and made another. Oh well.
I merged them. J. One thing to note here, seems CL have either dumped the whole social thing or cut it back significantly, judging on the people in the picture (they seem to be quite unique and not "belonging" to those social group stuff. A move FIRMLY in the right direction. =D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EnTOU2CQbY#GU5U2spHI_4 check out the BCE (BAT) for this game, really nice to use it appears. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EnTOU2CQbY#GU5U2spHI_4 -------------------- This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. This valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. If Monte Cristo can keep this up, their first shot might be a miss, but their second is a home-run!
Though, it's just one screen, and nothing is visible that tells us enything about gameplay. I've read a statement from the cristo team on one of the fansites, that they have been listening very closely to what CL players wanted, and that CL players were overall big fans of SC too, so that gives me hope that there'll be a good citybuilder game out there if SC doesn't cut it -------------------- ![]() |

At leastthe in-game ads are presented realistically though!

QUOTE 2) See that train in the BG? Didn't even notice that. Now that I see it, it really makes me wonder how the different mass transit systems will be implemented. I mean they could go as far as the ability to raise the height of the different systems ourselves to suit our needs and to make land bridges. The BCE looks awesome and so simple that even I could do it. -------------------- <img src="http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e367/Moneyman2010mn/money.jpg">

This game is winning my appreciation very fast. As is, I would be willing to give this a try. I haven't seen zoning yet, which is what I'm hoping for most now - along with some curves in those roads - but it isn't enough to offset my interest.
I'm not 100% sold, but the more I see, the closer I get. -------------------- ![]() |

I just found the advertising
I for one am a huge proponent of in-game advertising. Ads = More $ for Developers = Better Development. And when they're used like that, it aint too intrusive =P -------------------- ![]() |

It does look quite good! Let's wait for more news and screenshots to come out, then we could judge it even better. But you know what, right from the start it's looking better then Simcity Societies!

Oh dear. I thought I had found some City Life 2 videos on youtube ... I was watching them thinking "This might turn out decent." Then I noticed they were for the origional City Life.
The fact that City Life 1 looks better then Societies ... good sign for CL, bad sign for SC. -------------------- ![]() |
