EA has given the One Laptop Per Child organisation the opportunity to pre-install SimCity Classic on their low-cost machines. The open ended nature of the SimCity series seems to fit perfectly with the vision of the OLPC:

Our goal: To provide children around the world with new opportunities to explore, experiment and express themselves.

OLPC wants children in poor countries to be able to have access to computers and use them as tools to express themselves, and learn.  

Some people claim EA has only taken this step as a publicity stunt for the release of SimCity Societies, which is due next week. Even if that is the case, it is doubtful children in developing countries getting to try SimCity for the very first time will care. Will Firaxis step forward and let OLPC include the original Civilization as well?
