EA Claims Spore Delay News due to “Misinformation” – SIMphoni

Apparently the folks at EA were somewhat taken by surprise by the news of further Spore delays making the rounds on the Internet yesterday. The people of Next-Gen called an EA representative for some clarification, and apparently there’s “some misinformation flying around.” EA CEO John Riccitello specifically said that “we were moving Spore from fiscal ’08 to early fiscal ’09,” which for EA is between April 2008 and March 2009.

…Spore is a title we have enormous confidence in. I’ve had the chance to review the title three times in the my short return to EA and it looks fantastic. I will also tell you that it’s right up [to] the bubble in Q4 [of fiscal ‘08], if not sometime in early fiscal ‘09, so we don’t feel comfortable in forecasting it.

Spore has been one of the most anticipated games for years, and we think EA shouldn’t fault the fans for interpreting the May 8th statement in the most positive way possible: i.e. a launch before the end of March 08. It now seems that it will move to April, May, June…or later still? We will have to sit tight and wait for further news.
